As I opened my email today to browse through all the spam I typically ignore, I came across a Topshop newsletter with the subject "Jeggings and Floral Footwear." Nevermind the second part, which is self-explanatory, but my first reaction (with the question sounding similar in my head to the way Dave Chapelle says, "What the fuck is juice?") was, "WTF are jeggings?" Jeggings, my friend, are the future. Why this didn't become a fashion staple much earlier is beyond me, as it's pretty much the single most invaluable invention since fire or the wheel– as in, THE solution to the proverbial problem for all girls: fitting into skinny-ass jeans. If you've ever had a period, or just a day where you thought, "fuck it, I'm eating that third cupcake," jeggings are for you. And if you're like me, you probably agree that leggings (and items with elastic waists in general) are a god-send. I wear them when I'm feeling too fat to even attempt battling denim or just too lazy to give a fuck how I look. Leggings are the article of clothing that possess the same qualities as your mom: compassionate, accepting, and just plain reliable. But then on some days, you just really want a good pair of form-fitting jeans. And here you have it, jeggings: the look of tight jeans with the comfort of leggings. Unbeknownst to myself how ahead of the curve I was, I already started participating in this space-age fashion technology by purchasing a pair a week ago. Not to mention, jeggings also finally provide a solid answer to the ongoing question, "can you wear leggings as pants?" Yes. Yes you can, m*therfucker!
