ASK MISSBEHAVE

October 1st, 2008 by admin

Dear Missbehave, I’ve been at my sucky office job for about a year. There was recently this company takeover thing and now I have a new boss who runs things differently and doesn’t seem to get me. I don’t know if he cares to get me. That’s not even my problem though, I’ve been in charge of certain aspects of the company since I started and he’s started giving these things away to my coworkers. It’s kind of like he’s trying to make me quit? It’s making me totally crazy! I’ve been working on this one account for a month now and yesterday at a meeting, he announced that he was taking over! What do I do? My office homey told me I should confront him and tell him that I actually cared about the project, but I’m so mad now that I don’t even think I could do that without crying! Part of me just wants to forget about this job and start looking elsewhere, but I’ve never been a quiter and I’ve been working my ass off to get to where I am, I don’t want one person to totally ruin it for me, even if he is my boss! Help pleeeease!!!!

Tonight: Drink a bottle of wine. Write down the pros/cons of your jot down some ideas of what you would say to your boss IF you decide to confront him. I totally think you should because if you show him that you really do give a shit about this project then he’ll (HOPEFULLY) respect the fact that you took some time out, took him aside and let him know that you give a shit about your job & your involvement.

If you need to cry, do it tonight. Do it alone. But DO NOT cry in front of coworkers, especially your boss.

Regardless of how meager a meal, we must be thankful and enjoy its simplicity and its benefit for our health. Sometimes the simpler, the better. This is also a lesson in contentment and personal discipline and mastery, is it not?

I vote you decide how well you can work under an unsupportive boss who’s trying to make you fail. If there is no way of getting around it, talk to him, if you decide it’s not worth it and you want to be valued, and your company has a decent severance package, act like a lunatic until they fire you.

Alright, I just went through this at my old job and I just totally knew something was up. Things were taken away… I was getting treated badly… etc.

Honestly, I hated to be a quitter too. But like Olivia’s saying, Do you really want to work under an unsupportive boss? I voted ‘no’ to that crap.

I got to where I hated my boss. So I found something waaaay better. And I’m even making more money. I’ve even had old coworkers ask if I wanted to come back to the company and work in another department but just the thought of seeing her around the office made my skin crawl.

Sometimes things happen for a reason.
