I get it. I am a jaded bitch too

September 1st, 2008 by Sarah Morrison

(Preface: this is a generalization made about writers of a certain website. This does not include all said website’s contributors. With that said, hate mail me.)

I blog for a living. I have for years. I have a “blogroll,” I visit each morning. It’s a list of sites I have compiled over the years that I enjoy the content and or writers of. Like any blogger or e-journalist, i pull stories and news-worthy items from these sources. I then share my personal take on said items with you, my readers.

Sometimes I bitch and moan how the internet is stealing my soul and whatnot. Blah blah shut up, Sarah. My goal is humor. I am sharing these things to make people laugh. I am not trying to be a bitch. BUT, sometimes things i say/write have a bitchy jaded undertone. I acknowledge that. I curb it as best i can. Bitchiness. Jadedness. Periods happen.

Fashion Indie is a site with alot of potential. They have cash, visibility, content galore. If unfamiliar, check it out. It fascinates me what they chose to NOT do with the site. The undertone is SO beyond my often jaded sometimes period fueled bitchiness. The tone is nasty. I am not clear if the writers are overweight and beyond unattractive. Or whether they are failed pop stars with angst. Perhaps, the site sent them to a seminar taught by Perez Hilton. I don’t know.

But my god, someone needs to get laid over there.

I have never taken a website off my blogroll until Fashionindie. RIP man. My suicidal thoughts have decreased tenfold, since. You won’t be missed.

To fashionindie: encourage your writers to start Livejournals perhaps. offer gym memberships? Botox is fairly economical? Or just ask for resumes before hiring!

There is a fine line between sarcastic and mean. If you can’t see it. Get out some chalk out and draw it.

xoxo

Yeah, I think sometimes people write really meanly a) because more people will read it (which explains Perez Hiltonbitch) and b) because it’s easy to be mean on the internet because of the anonymity involved. But one time, somebody I talked about on my blog contacted me and I felt really bad. So I stopped being a bitch. But yes, fashionindie writers need to get laid. And then maybe take a writing class or two?

  2. Sarah Morrison Says:

    im the same way.

ive def said things that have hurt people. things i deemed funny that in the end were more hurtful than funny. its a fine line…laughing with people vs laughing at them.

ive burned bridges and messed up a couple times. im never trying to hurt anyone i care about. if i do its a misquoted sense of humor.

that site isnt what we are talking about. its intentionally nasty.

    do not want.

  3. erika Says:

Yeah, I know what you mean. These kids kinda enjoy being mean. But they’re still poor writers. At least if you’re gonna be an evil, sharp as glass bitch, you should know how to use an apostrophe and the right use of their/they’re/there. That seems like a given.

    fuck ‘ em sarah…we got your back…

  6. lipsmacker Says:

i could not agree with you more. i stopped reading fashionindie a while ago. a lot their entries are poorly written and way too mean.

  7. rebecca Says:

Look, everyone has their own opinion and is
entitled to it, which is fine by us, but as editor
of Fashion Indie I feel as though you made it
personal, and it really shouldn’t be. It’s about
one site to another, and you can hate ours, but it
is really hard for me to understand why you bashed
us without using examples, at least point to a
certain post or comment. I have 10 writers, some
good and some purposely bad, and only 5% of our
daily content is bashful or mean in some way, and
all for the sake of fashion, we don’t bash peoples
    persona’s.
I agree that the misspelling have become an issue,
but this seems like more of a publicity stunt for
you to get more press then anything else…If I’m wrong feel free to let me know.

  8. beedee Says:

i’ve been checking out fashion indie for some timw now and they really are jerks. they say racist and just plain mean shit. i’m pretty sure they’re all just really ugly people. further proof of their ugliness comes from their post about you. please tell me you’ve seen it. i pretty much hate them now.

  9. AVeronica Says:

    word on that.

  10. AVeronica Says:

Wow, even the ‘response letter’ was laden with terrible grammar. Impressive.

  11. nessalicious Says:

Uh oh, I smell internet drama….

Seriously though, I can’t believe they made that response to your post, it’s immature and downright unprofessional. To accuse someone of being a slut just because they don’t like your blog?? Wow, they really prove their point there don’t they? What a bunch of dicks.

  12. gfunnymoneybk Says:

its funny they got so uncomfortable about it they literally had to post a comment trying to redeem themselves…mind you AFTER they posted a [hot] picture trying to retard SM..and admitting they’re assholes, because hey thats cool lollercopter.

  13. sassy Says:

It seems, like you, Sarah dear someone at Fashion Indie has a bit of an Aoki crush: http://fashionindie.com/sinners-saynt-trying-to-get-in-with-steve-aoki/

Oh wow its the same dude that wrote this post: http://fashionindie.com/is-fashionindiecom-the-most-hated-blog-in-fashion/#comments.

Could it be **gasp, gasp** that someone is jealous of your relationship with Mr. Aoki.

I really think all he wants is to be your best friend and and stay up all night talking about how hot Steve is when he humps the turtables…Trust.

  14. saynt Says:

OMG!!!!! Do you think Gawker might write about this tomorrow? Holy shit, I hope they do. Then Sarah will get what she wants, a little more notoriety online.

Listen sugar, if you bash thou shalt be bashed. We didn’t make the rules, but damn as hell will we thoroughly enforce it.

It’s sad really that you’ve chosen this route to get noticed, in another life we could have been friends. (or at least frienemies).

PS. Funnymoneybk. It ain’t about redemption. It’s about the bash, it’s always about the bash. (Plus it’s a slow news day ;-)

  15. Jessica Says:

Sarah did them a favor, now they’re actually getting a legit amount of comments on a post.

  16. erika Says:

Wait, wait, wait. I have to figure out what’s funnier about this situation: the fact that they say it’s not personal and yet did a whole entry about it and left comments on here, the fact that they are getting their facts about Sarah Morrison from her Myspace, or that there was a discrepancy in the comments section about whether or not she was 18. Hahahaha! And sry, but Sarah doesn’t look bad in that picture. Oh well.

  17. shepdini Says:

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzz

  18. Corey Says:

Fashion Indie has always stood up for themselves, I don’t know why this would be any different. The funny thing is how you mock them for not getting comments, yet this is the orginal story and Fashion Indie’s response has more comments. Makes sense? Oh and it will be funny when everyone bashing Fashion Indie right now tries to get into Gossip Girl Nights and the New York Couture show on the 10th. That will be an embarassing door rejection, especially because you don’t even have to RSVP.

But in all honesty who doesn’t like to bash? Isn’t it sort of how the whole blog world started, people coming online to write about their daily issues? It’s just a bummer because I’m fairly certain that everyone commenting right now would probably get along in a social setting. It’s cool though, because at the end of the day bloggers need each other and Fashion Indie will be checking your stories, and Fashion Indie will become that guilty please you hate to admit you read.

  19. alissawins Says:

yeah why all the personal attacks on sarah? she didnt personally attack a specific blogger over there, and didnt get into personal facts, yet they felt the need to personal attack sarah. laaame. they sound a little buttsore to me.

  20. Dinah Says:

damn straight, there’s backlash! sarah morrison, you’re officially too legit to quit.

  21. rebecca Says:

Wow, does anyone have anything better to do? Guess
not…Honestly, I think the attack should have been
personal, or aimed at a specific post or writer,
but to go and insult the entire site is just crude.
What did it do to you, and what exactly did we say
to offend you personally, Sarah? If you hate what
Daniel has said, then blame him, don’t hate on
all of us. There are only two hateful bloggers on
my team our of ten, and it’s F*UPed to take it out on Fashion Indie as a whole. Plus, it seems as though you’ve never read the site, or you would be mentioning a specific post or at least have backup for what you said…

Oh, and if someone assumes that we are
unattractive and overweight, you damn right better know that we are gonna check your myspace for
shit on you and fire right back…

  22. Olivia Says:

Hahah. This is funny. I wish more people raged about innocent blog posts. And I thought today would be boring. I wish this was the type of hate mail I got! I’d feel really excellent about my life…I get super personal ‘i hope you die’ type emails…I guess closer to their response. Cheer up fashionindie! You got lots of traffic on a national holiday! That’s exciting, no?

  23. rebecca Says:

  24. Olivia Says:

Oh and sorry Corey, but no one knew about your party to begin with…so we’re not really hurt. At all.

  25. saynt Says:

We attacked the writer who attacked our site. We didn’t start this fire, though knowing how much response it generated, we wished we did. We’d attack Missbehave, but this probably isn’t the view of the entire editorial staff.

We really love Missbehave Magazine and enjoy that they let their bloggers have as much free license to rant as we give to our writers. It’s that free license that sometimes leads to the “mean” posts we often put on the site. We don’t think it’s mean, we’re just being honest.

Sarah just seems like she’s just out to get noticed in the blogging world, which is fine, we’ve bestowed upon you a bash. Congrats for making it rumble in our pants for a second.

This isn’t personal, honestly it isn’t. We had no idea who Sarah was until this morning when her post was sent to our mailbox. If she wants to post shit about us, more power to her, but for us to just sit by and let it happen without commenting back is just not in our nature. We’re known for talking shit about people and Sarah doesn’t deserve any special treatment. She went into this knowing we’d respond. She’s probably getting all hot and heavy on her laptop as she reads this comment.

    Congrats Sarah, you’ve been acknowledge.

I know it must feel really good to be in Daniel Saynt’s disfavor.

  26. Olivia Says:

“acknowledged” (it requires a d). She’s actually not “hot and heavy on her laptop”, she’s watching Biodome and whining that I won’t change it. I understand that you guys want to stand up for yourselves, and I’m sure you’re perfectly attractive svelte characters, but honestly no one on our side is attempting to garner attention with a flippant blog post. We blog what we feel, so do you, all of us have a right to these feelings (sans lawsuits). So do what you have to do to make it right, but just so you know, we’re not bothered. Go right ahead and voice your anger—it’s freedom of speech and we will not sue you. Thanks.

  27. Olivia Says:

    Oh and example: http://fashionindie.com/the-worst-possible-fashion-statment-ever/
We hate crocs just as much as you do, I guess we’re just not willing to kill the creator of dora the explorer crocs. I understand the use of exaggerated anger in comedy, but calling Dora a fatty isn’t funny…she’s like 5!
P.S. I don’t hate you guys, I just don’t have anything better to do than comment right now. Does anyone know of a good sudoku site? I’m so bored. You guys are right, it is a slow news day. I Heart Hukkabees is on now…a little better than Biodome.

  34. Sarah Morrison Says:

    this is so confusing.

i didnt personally atttack anyone. i said the website has a strange mean undertone. you all agreed.

my site gets plenty of traffic. it doesnt need me “pulling anything.” yours does not, the point i am making.

you finally got some comments. you should be thanking me.

yeah you are suing me for not liking your blog?

    haha

  35. tideturns Says:

that is beyond ridiculous. they are trying to make your post into something it was not…
    TEAM SARAH.

p.s. i have unsubscribed to a number of different blogs for being over-the-top mean. i couldnt take it anymore!

  36. Lillie Says:

    Wow. Internet fights are hilarious.

  37. rebecca Says:

We’re not offended, we just get on the defense whenever some internet celebrity wannabe gets an rock hard for us and feels bashing us might be a way to get some attention.

Since you started this bash battle, we’ll be the ones to end it.

We didn’t Google you cause we knew we wouldn’t find anything, we just checked out your profile on Missbehave which had a link to your MySpace. But for future reference, when you are in journalism it’s a smart thing to do a little research before you write something. We decided to do this before we went after you, we found your myspace and listed 18 as your age cause we assumed you wouldn’t be the type to lie about something like that since most 18 year olds aren’t taken seriously by publishers and magazines. We were wrong.

You didn’t just say our site had a mean undertone. You didn’t just write it on your personal site, to your tiny group of devotees. You wrote it on Missbehave’s site, which probably doesn’t get too much traffic, but still, it’s not exactly good press for our company. You even had to give your post it’s own tag category, “Dumb Websites”. (though I’m sure all future posts in this category will be toned down, you can’t go around calling a website’s writers underfucked, fatties with anger issues without getting a couple letters from lawyers).

Obviously, you put a lot of thought into your post and considering it’s the longest article you’ve ever written for the site, I’m sure you really wanted it to be your Pulitzer piece which means you probably knew we’d retaliate.

We’re not some massive company, we’re just a small band of fashion people with a passion for indie fashion. Most of our posts are focussed around new designers, photoshoots, models and industry news. Usually, only a handful are “Opinion” pieces in which our writers get a chance to rant about whatever they have on their minds. We always encourage our readers to bash us back or tell us we’re assholes or say that we don’t know what we’re talking about, it opens up conversations and gets people involved in what we’re saying. We love it so much we usually feature our favorite hate mail.

We’re a pretty tight knit group of writers here at Fashion Indie. We might not be the best, we might not have taken Fashion Writing 101, we might forget to spell check from time to time or might misuse a “there/their/or they’re” (we’re working on that one), but attack one of us and you attack all of us. Which means your bash on Fashion Indie affects all ten of our writers and, as President, that pisses me off especially.

I will always do my utmost defend our writers.

They work really hard and write some of the most original articles the online fashion world has to offer. They might not be Vogue-worthy in the eyes of an elitist like you, but we love them and will always feature anything they have to say.

If you have a problem with our site then don’t read it. But don’t make it your mission to talk shit about us if you aren’t prepared to have shit talked about you. The lawsuit talk was a joke, you’re not actually stupid enough to think we were being serious? Please, do you think our lawyers want to be bothered whenever some failed writer decides to bash us?

Oh and thanks for admitting to sucking on photographers dicks, really classy.

    Basically Sarah, go fuck yourself.

PS. We’ll probably see you tonight at Supreme Trading. We’ll be the group of people in corner flinging lime slices at your head and booing whenever they hand you the mike. Why they would choose such a loser to judge a beauty pageant is beyond me, but I guess stranger things have happened in fashion.

    Hugs and Disses,

    Daniel Saynt

  38. tideturns Says:

btw, i am Amanda- the one commenting on that fashionindie post. just for clarification.

bla bla bla it doesnt change the fact that they are talking shit just to mask the fact that sarah is right- and defend their egos.
it still makes no sense that they admit to the things sarah says- but then go on the defensive, essentially calling her a whore. wtf is wrong with these people?

  39. Olivia Says:

Fuck you Daniel Saynt. Don’t come to our website and say fuck you to our writer. We stand behind her, I stand behind her. Go back to fashionindie and stay there. Sarah isn’t a loser and I can’t fathom how an editor in chief would have the time to write such a bitter diatribe. And next time you attempt to “make jokes”, try not to contradict yourself in the same message. Actually don’t bother. We don’t need your midtown parties, your pissy accusations, or your lame attempts at defense. Next time you call my friend a slut, prepare to have your throat slit. Asshole.

  40. Olivia Says:

I didn’t hate you before, but God how I do now. Throw your limes, but look out for our rocks.

  41. Corey Says:

Hey Amanda it’s Blah Blah Blah jeez learn how to spell, your editor must suck if she allows such pointless spelling errors fly under the radar. Don’t you know how to spell?

Olivia…way to take defensive to a whole new level. Must suck when people say your writers are trash. Sound familiar Sarah, oh yeah because that’s exactly what you said the first time around. Olivia you should look into hiring a couple male writers to do your bash posts, we could argue and bash all day, and it never gets old.

Third and finally, I got a copy of the Autumn 2008 Missbehave (you know with that sell out, MIA wannabe, Santogold on the cover). Yeah I own it. Obviously didn’t pay for it, but I will say it is rather interesting how Sarah has like 3 articles, one of which is about bowel movements.

I’m going to be honest. I like the mag, I have no problem with your writers, I have no problem with what Sarah Morrison said. However, if you are going to say something along the lines she did, don’t sit and deny or try to reword what you orginally meant, own up to it and for the love of the bash keep it going. Take a lesson or two from Olivia, she seems to be wayyyyyyy better than you at it. Respect Olivia.
