ASK MISSBEHAVE

September 4th, 2008 by admin

Dear MissBehave, It all started a little over a month ago. I spotted the Facebook status of this guy I know from school. It said he was “out sarging the night away.” Sarging is a pickup artist term for picking up girls. I only knew that because I read about half of Neil Strauss’ “The Game,” a book about Strauss becoming a pickup artist. Anyway, I wrote on his wall, “Since when did you become a pickup artist?” as a joke. The guy writes back, “When did you learn the terminology?” I tell him I read the book. He says he read it too and goes on to say that I shocked the hell out of him when I called him out. Then he proceeds to tell me about his dating history. This made me kind of nervous. Why exactly was he telling me all this? I was kind of kidding when I called him out on the whole pickup artist thing. One of my friends thinks he’s feeling guilty about something.

So now a month goes by and classes started last week. I started noticing that every time I see him, I get kind of anxious. I just keep thinking of him as a pickup artist. I find myself viewing everything he does as a pickup artist strategy. It’s so weird. My brain’s on pickup artist overload and it’s giving me a headache.

Just when I thought my anxiety was finally going away at the end of the week, my friend and I run into him in the hallway. We both say hello to him and keep moving. He then yells to me that he’s “going sarging later.” I turn around and smile and nod. Of course, my anxiety returns. Why is he making me so anxious? It’s not like I’m in love with him or anything.

Bahahahah. This is awesome. Actually, as soon as I read up on The Game, I got soooo stressed watching boys picking up girls because I knew exactly what they were doing! It’s fucked up! My brother uses it. But obviously you have no idea what this guy is doing with you now AND knowing how his mind works now in relationship to girls is like knowing what he looks like naked. You know his secrets, you SHOULD be the one in power, but at the same time you know he’s using his power for evil.

maybe he is trying to sarge you lol

That’s so weird, my ex-boyf who I’m still good friends with read this after we broke up. It really creeps me out. I feel like it’s not genuine when guys are using tactics to pick up girls.

Yeah…last summer a pack of ugly magicians tried to get me and my girlfriends to do secret handshakes. It freaked me the fuck out, and then I remembered the book. After I accused them, they fessed up immediately and we left. Ew.

    What about love?

I had to go to a PUA workshop as part of some marketing BS when I was working for a ‘well-know male grooming’ brand.

The guys running it just came across as nerds. They spoke to each other using all the technical jargon (like ’sarging’) as if it was a secret language, and they had special forums and websites online where they could hang out talking about pick up artistry.

It reminded me of those guys who are really into online gaming or collecting comic books. For them, trying to become a Pick Up Artist had kind of ceased to be about interacting with women and had become an activity to pursue in and of itself.

At the end of the day, what you get is still a bunch of guys obsessing together over something.
    Plus ca change….

I think thats his strategy of attracting you. He lets you know he is a pick up artist and makes you wonder if he is going to hit on you. In a weird way he makes you feel flattered by it and thus attracted. Does not work on all women but I think that is what he is tryin.

hahaa the game is so stupid. i spotted that book in this guy’s room that i had started dating and instantly lost all attraction. whatever happened to just being yourself? do they really think that like wearing goggles on their head will get them a girlfriend? ew. anyway. don’t stress about this guy. he probably is just overcompensating every time he sees you because he’s embarrassed that you know his little secret. i can’t believe he put that as his facebook status. ha
