Learning Disability Heroine

August 28th, 2008 by Samantha

I suck at spelling. I’m sure most of you have noticed. I constantly get called out for my hideous spelling errors. Guess what, I pretty much got all C’s in middle school. Tests concluded that it wasn’t anything serious but every once and a while I write 3’s backwards. When I would send my Grandma letter’s as a kid she would send them back with all the misspelled words circled. I know it’s a bad look and thank god for spell check. Alas, every once and a while a few words get by so my secret is revealed. I want to be a good speller but I’ve kinda embraced the I-spell-things-how-feel-like-it method. I’m the one that somehow pulled through managed to start a magazine. I thought I should be open with you guys. It was starting to get a little weird. Average learners unite and consider me a Learning Disabled Heroine. What I’m saying is I want to be the new Theo.

my spelling is pretty good, but if someone asks me to spell something outloud i cant do a damn thing. i even get fergie’s “glamorous” wrong, im like singing “g-l-a-r-o-m-i-us” and my husband makes fun of me.
my math skills are horrible, seriously. in elementary school they took me to a special class at mathtime to figure out why my math is so bad. a client at work who has a developmental disability figured out 7×3 faster than i did the other day.
i cant tel you all this because i’m pretty confident that other than multiplication and spelling outloud i’m a fairly intelligent person. i think.
