You had me at Hello

July 24th, 2008 by Sarah Morrison

Mom Jams somehow led to us watching clips from Beaches and singing Wind Beneath My Wings. Then logically cutting bitches with “It must have been cold there in my shadow” and throwing hugs with “You are the wind beneath my wings.” I then realized I wanted to really watch Beaches and asked Olivia if there were still video stores. She claimed they still exist. So I compiled a list of other tear inducing films I want to pick-up while at this alleged video store. My top ten (in no particular order) after the jump. Agree. Disagree. Add your own.

Beaches

My girl

Terms of Endearment

13 going on 30

Steel magnolias

Closer

Titanic

Fried Green Tomatoes

Armageddon

Jerry McGuire

the Fox and the Hound (honorable mention)

  5. e.e. cummings Says:

i think boys don’t cry was pretty sad.

  6. ShannonElaine Says:

OSHIT! Ask and ye shall receive. e. e. cummings on Missbehave. Almost as big as Tyra!

Agree with Closer, and I balled at the end of
Breakfast at Tiffany’s when I saw it for the first time at age 12, I was really worried about Cat.

  9. mdot Says:

there is 3 out of the list that I have not seen, but the list looks good. I’ve shed a tear I think at all of them.
funny enough my husband and i recently watched Bicentennial Man and i cried.
another one i think is just awesome is:
Imitation of Life especially the scene when Mahalia Jackson sings “Trouble of the World”
OMG! I’m welling up as I write this.

  10. Sarah Morrison Says:

selena and la bamba are good ones!

  11. Jessica Fletcher Says:

Holy shit, yes, Fried Green Tomatoes, when Ruth dies, and in Beaches when Hilary dies, jaysus, I think I’ve seen both a grillion times and I cry EVERY damn time.

Still doesn’t beat the time my sister cried at a Sylvan Learning Commercial. She will never live that down.

  12. Jessica Fletcher Says:

Boys Don’t Cry - I literally can’t watch it because I can’t understand why they can’t be together. (I know, it’s ’cause of haters, but still, in my idealistic world, if you love someone, it doesn’t matter who you are).

The Notebook - my sister made me watch it knowing I cry at sad movies, then when I did, she taunted me, saying, “Bitch Crier, Bitch Crier”

    Bitch.

Hi Mom! Nice jeans. I got Dirty Dancing Director’s Cut on DVD for you! It’s a 2-disc set with Director and Actor Commentary. I brought you frozen pizza, Diet Coke, frosting in a jar, and one of those things you can put on your jeans to have them unbuttoned but not totally butterfly open. Good night, enjoy, don’t stay up for me.

Totally agree with Beaches, terms of endearment, and Steel Magnolias.
-One Flew over the cuckoo’s Nest makes me tearrrr.
-Big Fish!! Ah that makes me cry and it’s not b/c I know I will never get Billy Crudup to notice me.
-I saw the Pianist in the movie theatre and I lost it.
-Philadelphia was sad, Forrest Gump (Oh tom hanks why do you have to make me cry so much).
-P.S. I Love You I just watched recently. I thought it was going to be a silly romance but then ughh sadness starts flowing.
    -What Dreams May Come

Ok I think I proved my point that I cry at a lot of stuff.

  18. tideturns Says:

    -what dreams may come

and this is embarassing because a) i paid to see this in the theater and b) it made me cry- i was the only one in the theater though:
    -sisterhood of the traveling pants.

    lol

  19. erika Says:

Most sad movies don’t make me cry…blame it on my inability to feel…but I did cry during The Duke and embarrassingly enough, I started crying in the theatre during Lilo and Stitch.

  20. Rue Says:

    My girl
agreed, in theory. also, made me hate bees.
i’ve actually only cried during two movies.
    the lion king
and things we lost in the fire.
thanks for not putting the notebook on here. HATE it!
    if you’re a bird, i’m a bird-ugh

  21. rockinlils Says:

pretty much agree with all of those except for 13 going on 30. WTF. YES to Breakfast at Tiffany’s! The cat part still makes me cry! And when she finds him ohhhhh it’s soooooo tear worthy! Maybe that’s because I’m obsessed with my cat though. And I too cried in sisterhood of the traveling pants - don’t be embarrassed!

  22. Color_mepink Says:
