Best Girly Jam of all time!!!
July 23rd, 2008 by MothHere is another post about girly jams…but this time, you can nominate your favorite jam OF ALL TIME. Remember, girly jams are not simply jams by girls. They are jams that are so girly that boys can’t stand them. The girliest ones make you a little embarassed to BE a girl. Also, you must be able to jam to them, or at least sing them very passionately to your cat. Anything on a teenage melodrama TV show soundtrack counts.

Artist: Letters to Cleo
Song: I Want You to Want Me
haha the 10 things I hate about you soundtrack..
oh!
Anything by Savage Garden..
anything ever written or performed by heart!
Probably a pick from one of my favorite girly bands, Veruca Salt– probably “Volcano Girls”.
That or that song from She’s All That where they play volleyball, but that’s not an all-time best. God, this is tough!
P.S. Erika, be so proud of yourself. “Kiss Me” was your suggestion, after all, right?
Oh. My. God. I have some even better ones, so bad that they’re guaranteed to make your ears bleed:
Play “Us Against the World” (heard at a Ginza department store a few weeks ago at my own expense)
No Secrets “That’s What Girls Do”. That song is just horrible in its own right.
Ooh! Or for Secret Diary of a Call Girl fans, Billie Piper’s “Because We Want To” is also an awesome jam.
@Betsey: YES! I love the end when they are playing the song on the roof, and how presh was Heath singing to Julia Stiles?! I have this movie on VHS. My first bf gave it to me.
@Kati: Holy crap, I’m blasting “Magic Man” as I type this!
How ’bout my fav of all time, which my sister and I would sing in unison when we were PMS-ing:
“Don’t take it personal (Just one of dem days)” by Monica
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eUf6i7iva0s
I was, and still am a mega fan of Monica, and Toni Braxton and Mariah Carey. Holy good vibes.
@Lolita: yeah it was! I love anything by Sixpence None The Richer! It’s all eggpants awesome girl pinnacle-ness!
I also loved “C’est La Vie” by B*Witched, back in ‘98 when I didn’t care if people saw me dancing or thought my clothes were ugly. Sadly, they were.
Oh and I have to nominate “I Don’t Want To Wait” by Paula Cole. It’s the Dawson’s Creek theme. When I heard it on the radio, I used to try to sing all the words but I never knew anything past the chorus.
@erika: “Kiss Me” should be THE GIRLY JAM of the century! One time it came on at the grocery store when I was at the checkout and me and the cashier stopped and started singing it.
I don’t want to wait….soooo goood.
here’s a different version of “kiss me” that i found, Sally:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NxByQOLTAck
“caramel” by city high… anyone remember that? it was just awesome. who’s 5′5″ with brown eyes?
and that grease song “you better shape up.. cos i need a man.. and my heart is set on you”
ah but some girly jams are just bad.
killing me softly - lauryn hill
You Ought Know…Alanis. Or heres one I secretly like…First Cut is The Deepest…I don’t even know who its by. Sheryl Crow???
“The Sweetest Thing” - Lauryn Hill
“Never is a Promise” - Fiona Apple
“Stroker Ace” - Lovage!!!!
[…] instance, over at Missbehave, Sally has us voting for our favorite, “Girly Jam” of all time and she has a video of “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None The Richer posted. […]
oh, sam! I agree!
I love “head over feet” though. Before the lesbian incident that broke up my girl posse, “head over feet” was our anthem. (We were embarrassed about it even then.)
ps. I lived in Lauren Hill’s dorm room at Columbia. I used to listen to her album in her dorm room!It was a great room with a skylight.
Here’s two that we can’t miss:
“I can’t make you love me if you dont” by Bonnie Rait.
“You’re still the one” by Shania Twain
“Save Me” by Aimee Mann
Also, how about Girly Jams by dudes?
“The Space Between” by Dave Matthews (I really miss surreal videos like this.) http://youtube.com/watch?v=YvkX3t5LgVI
“The Blower’s Daughter” by Damien Rice
http://youtube.com/watch?v=UHPTHP4dihA
(Closer is also the greatest break-up movie of all time.)
Oops that was three.
“Save Me” is the shit!
“Don’t Ever Fucking Question That” by Slug is about as girly a hip hop jam as it’s gonna get. And I STILL love it!
total eclipse of the heart. i should start writing them down. i think of more all day long then forget them when at a computer
The Cardigans - Lovefool
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddT2QmVnJiQ
Most definitely…
“Not gon cry” -MJB
& “Don’t Speak” or “Just a Girl” by No Doubt
OK I’ve been blasting Avenue D - Do I Look Like a Slut in my boyfriends car and he promptly changes the song. My girl and I love to jam out to that track.
I also vote for Shania Twain - Still the One
I would like to add Selena - Bidi Bidi Bom Bom cause I just saw the movie on tv last night, and I’m Mexican-American so I GOTS to represent.
Soooperficial….
Mary and I both LOVE Selena. We’ve been trying to work her into the mag since the beginning. Maybe the December issue?
ummm where’s the mariah carey and/or madonna posts?? they’re totally worthy of girl jam nominations.
i wanted to nominate total eclipse of the heart. i always want it to thunder and lightening when i sing that song. but then i remembered hurrah torpedo’s video version of that song, which was, like, the most ungirly video of a girl jam song ever. not bad though, some fake norwegian guys play percussion by killing ovens and dishwashers. actually, it pretty much rules. the kid stays in the picture.
Ummmm, let’s see:
* The Clueless theme song - “Ordinary Girl”, lol
* Hanson - MmmmmBop!: Lmao, so GAY, but I was only a 3rd grader, so it doesnt really count….
* 702 - Where My Girls at?!
* Destiny’s Child - “No, no, no” remix w/ Wyclef tho — duh!
* TLC - “No Scrubs”
And much more to come…
P.S. @ Erika - Girrrrlllllll! Ce la vie’ was da JAM!!! I just downloaded it like a month ago (shhhh!)
@Chellz: Hells yeah! I just listened to the lyrics…super perverted, but of course as an eleven year old you don’t understand them.
What about more “Say My Name” and “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and oh! I used to rock “Heartbreaker” by Mariah Carey!
THE best: supermodel by jill sobule
and b*witched was good shit. what happened to them?
paula abdul-straight up now tell me
